THORNY NOOK LANE - Walney Island

Thorney Nook Lane looking east toward Biggar Village

Below is a picture of a 'cop' found in the fields adjacent to Thorny Nook Lane. A cop is described as a stone built dyke covered with soil to form a boundary / partition between fields etc, much in the same way that a fence would be used today. Cops are rare and only usually found were trees are few and were built in the days when transport wasn't readily available for use in carrying wood into the boundaries locality..
