(Jonnie the Tope with his forty-four pound tiddler)

This years event held on July 12th, was as in previous years sponsored by the Furness Fishing Association - Boat Angling Section, who donated the 500 prize money to which competitors could add a further 'optional' 2 if they so desired to boost the prize still further.

A total of 80 members fished the competition this year making the total prize funding for 2003 a handsome 680. the prize was claimed by the 2003 winner Mr. Alec Hale, who along with the biggest specimen caught also landed a new club record weighing in at a staggering 'fifty-one and half pounds' for which he received a further 100.

In the interests of conservation only one fish per boat was allowed to be brought ashore to the weighing station, which is itself positioned as close to the sea to allow all fish to be retuned alive, after being weighed as soon as is possible.
